Here are the colour keys beats that I painted and colour coded to fit with the mood of the film, I took the animatic shots from the Limbo scene. These will be put into a full document with all the other shots from the film.
This blog will be continuously updated to show all of my work from my final year Animation (BAHons) course 2012-2015 at University of Lincoln.

Winning Podium Colour Keys
Working on the colour keys for the podium, I have chosen colour 11. I like the subtle orange tones and I feel that it wont over shadow the characters and the animation going on in the scene.
Winning Podium Developments
I have chosen design 4, it has all of the same shape language as the original thumbnail but the surface area of the platform will be able to hold the character. Seeing as in the animatic this scene will be shot from the front I will not need to create a turnaround.
Winning Podium Thumbnails
I really like the 3rd design, the tall podium fits well with the cubist style. I will develop this thumbnail in the next design pages.
Elevator Graffiti Styles
For the graffiti design on the liftt doors we have decided to use design 3. The dark colours will stand out against the plain colours of the lift.

Elevator Lighting Concepts
Blue Lighting Tests
I have asked the Director and she likes the 3rd design for the blue lighting, however we felt that the blue was to intense for the small space. But this has helped me to figure out what colour the lighting needs to be.
Orange Lighting Tests
Again the 3rd design has been chosen for the lighting and the intensity of the lighting will ne toned down.
Elevator Final Colour Keys
Above is the final colour scheme for the lift scene, I have changed the lighting as the start of the film the lift will be lit with an orange tone and the blue light will be used in the lift when John leaves Hell.
Elevator Colour Keys
I have decided to use the 7th colour scheme design, the purple tones work well with the texture mood board created by Lisa. We liked the idea of having a metal texture for the inside of the lift. The different coloured carpet stands out well against the other colours.
Elevator Developments 2
Interior lift designs. We have chosen design 3, however I need to move the 'memory wipe' screen to the wall with the posters so John can easily seen the screen when leaving the lift at the end of the film.
Elevator Developments
I have created these floor plans to see the best layout for the scene, while keeping to the coffin style of the outside of the lift. I had the idea of the inside of the lift to just show the lift doors as the graffiti will act as a door on its own. The doors can disappear behind the wall as they open, leaving the main frame when the character exits. As a group we decided that design 3 looked the most interesting and matched the shape of the lift doors.

Limbo Door Colour Keys
I have gone through my work and realised that I forgot to post this when I was working on the limbo doors. Here are the colour keys, I chose design 4 as the brown and gold tones contrasted the blue colours of the main room. I wanted to emphasis the two aspects of the scene using colour theory.
Living Room Christmas Floor Plans
I have used the living room floor plans to allow me to work out where the Christmas tree and presents will go, I have also tried to think about placing of the bike for the child to run to. I feel that design 2 has the best flow, and will allow the child character to ride the bike around the living room without bumping into the tree.
Living Room Christmas Decoration Developments
I have created some basic christmas scene props, such as tree decorations and presents. I wanted simple designs to match the style of the tree. I will now work on colour keys for these designs.
Living Room Christmas Decorations
I have started working on the Christmas decorations for the scene where the boy gets the bike. I like the 4th design, its cubist style will match the sleek lines of the living room scene.
Living Room Table Colour Keys
I like the brown tones to compliment the living room scene, the golden colour scheme of design 5 I feel that it will work well in the room.
Living Room Table Thumbnails
I realised that I did not upload these designs long with the rest of the pre-production of the Living room scene, I wanted to add a table to fill some of the space and make it feel more lived in with generic furniture. I have decided to develop design 2 s myself and the director liked the curved table top design.

Street Scene Colour Keys
I feel that the 4th design will work out really well in the final design, it will match well with the rest of the colour scheme for the scene. I will make sure that these colours will work well in the concept pieces.
Street Scene Floor Plans
I have spoken with the director and we decided that to match the city residential style that was in mind for the film, we thought the 2nd design will look the best for the street scene. The straight row of houses will compliment the simple structure. We did like the square designs, however it looked more like an open space and the idea of an almost claustrophobic scene felt better.
Street Scene Door Developments
I have designed different styles for the front door, I feel that design 4 will work best for the final scene. The letter box makes the door look more realistic..
