Limbo Door Handle Designs 2

Limbo Door Handle Designs

Limbo Door Handle Mood Board

Limbo Door Handle Research

I had the idea of having images on each door depicting each circle of hell. The list below are the ideas I had for each of the handles. The door for limbo will be the lift so I thought it would be good to have a carpet on the floor welcoming the character to Limbo with an arrow to the desk.

1. Limbo - Welcome Mat
2. Lust - Breasts
3. Gluttony - A Slice of Pie
4. Greed - Money Bag
5. Anger - Barbed Wire
6. Heresy - Burning Coffin
7. Violence - Dagger
8. Fraud - Two Faces/Theatre masks
9. Treachery - Gun

Limbo Door Developments Frames and Style

As a group we have decided that the 1st design for the frame will work well in the final Limbo concept, and design 3 for the main door design. The hinges look interesting and gives the door an ancient feel.

Limbo Door Thumbnails

Talking to my group we decided that the first design was far to simple to match with the exaggerated style of the Limbo room. We decided that the 5th design will work best, I will go on to develop this design by looking at the different frames and patterns.

Limbo Floor Plans

Looking at the quick initial floor plans above, It was discussed as a group that the Limbo waiting room will need to have circular elements to represent the 9 circles of hell. As a group designs 3 and 4 were chosen, however we felt that the circular design was too warped to resemble a circle, The sharper lines of the third design would allow the doors to be placed in a flat surface without curving them.

I then developed the chosen design by placing the props such as wall lights, desk, chair and welcome mat in the chosen room to see what compositions worked best. Seeing as the character needed to exit through the 8th door I needed to figure out which doors had the best path to walk to without wasting to much time. We chose design 1 as it made sense as the door placements went in order from 1-9 (1 being the lift doors). Also the desk was closer to the back of the room, to add more of an impact with John entered the room.

Limbo Latin Translations

I have researched into the Latin translations for each of the 9 Circles of hell, seeing as I am responsible for designing the Limbo environment it was my job to find the correct translations. We decided that each door should have written text to show where each door leads to. But the Latin would add greater detail to the scene rather than having the English text, the reason for choosing Latin over any other language was because the original Dante's Inferno book was written in Latin.

Below are each of the Door Names with their Latin translations, Limbo remained the same.

Limbo - Limbo
Lust - Concupiscentia
Gluttony - Gulam
Greed - Cupiditas
Anger - Ira
Heresy - Haeresis
Violence - Iniquitas
Fraud - Dolus
Treachery - Insidiae

limbo lighting Colour Keys

Working out the colour keys for the wall light, as the light sources I liked the idea of having a really dark lampshade, the 8th design would be the best colour scheme to match the overall design of Limbo.

Limbo Lighting Developments

I have spoken to the group and we really liked the 2nd design, as it looked modern to fit the style of Limbo as the flames would look better in the other backgrounds going further into Hell.

I have chosen designs 2 and 6 to develop for the limbo scene.

Limbo Computer Design and Colour Keys

Design 6, will work really well in the overall final design, I might tone down the red if it looks a bit to bright. But I think the design will give the scene more detail.

Limbo Computer Textures

This is the computer turnaround from the office scene, to connect the two spaces and to show why we chose an office. I really liked the design and thought I could alter the colour schemes with different patterns like fire and smoke. I will take this designs and develop some new textural designs to make it unique to the scene.

I really like the 4th design for the computer graffiti, the skull fits the evil feel of hell. The group also likes the wording, so I will make sure to include this when texturing in Maya.

Limbo Bin Colour Keys

I have chosen design 3,the golden tones will stand out against the orange tones of the desk. Seeing as this prop will be scene quite closely in the final film. It will draw the eye in.

Limbo Bin Developments

I like the square, symmetrical style of design 4. It will contrast well with the circular room and still has the triangular shape language. Seeing as this design will be the same shape from every view I will not produce a turnaround sheet, I will go onto create bin colour keys for the final design.

I have chosen design 2 to develop for the Limbo scene. I really liked the sharp spikes and I will play around with the height in the developments page.

Limbo Gavel Colour Keys

For the colour scheme of the gavel I have chosen design 8, the colours will work well against the blue tones of the room.

Limbo Gavel Turnaround

Limbo - Gavel Developments

For the gavel I have decided to choose design 5, I really like the handle design its a bit more unusual than the other designs.

Limbo - Gavel Thumbnails

I really like design 4 for the gavel to represent Minos as a judge. It looks like a weapon, I will go onto develop this design.

Limbo - Reception Desk Colour Keys

As a group we decided that the 8th design will be the best colour scheme for the Limbo environment, the orange tones will stand out against the blues of the walls and flooring.

Limbo - Reception Desk Turnaround

Limbo - Reception Desk Developments 2

I took the two thumbnails seen in the top left hand corner and developed the reception desk design further. We all liked the 4th design as the high section of the corner created a barrier between John and Minos. Also the top view still has the devil silhouette shape.

Limbo - Reception Desk Developments

We couldn't decide whether designs 4 or 5 should be taken forward into the final design. I have chosen to develop these two designs further to take the groups favourite elements of the design. Also they wanted me to try and push the design and make the desk taller.

Limbo - Reception Desk Thumbnails

Discussing these designs with the group, design 4 was the majority favourite. I will then take this design to develop further.

Limbo Development Pushed Design 3

Out of the three pushed images, I felt that this design looked best. I really like the small desk in the centre being overshadowed by the tall doors. As if massive demons walk in and out of them all the time. I will take this design and go on to develop the door styles.

Limbo Scene Room Colour Keys and Final

I have chosen design 2 as the main colour scheme for the Limbo environment, the orange and blue tones contrast each other showing the difference between the different levels of hell. I was ask by my lecturer to push the design and play around with scale, I will go on to develop this idea and try out some new designs.

Limbo Scene - Cel Shading Style Lighting

I played around with the lighting to see if the bolder colours and bright lighting would work for the overall scene or if darker tones and minimal lighting should be use. As a group we decided that the top image was the most successful as we wanted the audience to be able to clearly see the desk and the characters.

Limbo Scene - Paint Style

This is the texture style we have decided on for the final models. However we will play around with shadows later in the model testing.

Limbo Props - Chair Colour Keys

I have chosen design 4 as the brown tones work well with the blue, I want this to stand out seeing as it will be quite small in the scene.

Limbo Props - Chair Turnaround

Limbo Props - Chair Developments

Based on the two chosen chair thumbnails, I have created the developments above by combining the two chairs in the top left corner. I have decided to develop the 4th design, I really like the sharp spikes and dramatic shapes of the seat and arm rests.

Limbo Props - Minos Throne/Reception Chair

I have taken designs 3 and 4 forward to develop for the limbo scene.

Limbo - Developed Outline

Limbo Developments

Talking to my group there were sections of designs 1, 3 and 4 that everyone liked. So I will go on to develop the parts that they liked to create the final room design for limbo.

Office Room Concept 1

Office Room Wallpaper Designs

This wallpaper design will go on the back wall of the office room, opposite the lift making the scene look more appealing.
Above are some thumbnails to help me decide on the best colour scheme for the office walls and floor. Based on the designs and colours of the props I have decided to choose design 5, the pale green flooring and bland beige walls with match the dull and lifeless personality of the character.
