Velo Etoile

1. Garage (Happy, excitable)

- Boy showing personal traits while working on the bike, introduction of the character.

2. Outside the house (Happy, Excitable)

- Sees boy riding up and down the street, showing love of riding.

3. Living Room (Scared, Fearful)

- Boy watching TV, sees death. Inset of fear begins.

4. Road (Time Skip)

- Character racing in a group, showing personal traits from childhood.

- Fear in the background following him.

 5. 2D Animation, Cartoon Road

- Envisions bad things happening to him, crashes ect.  This then causes him to slow down.

6. Road

- Sees accidents during the race.                                                                                        

- He then begins to slow down, falls behind the other racers. Fear multiply.

7. Further on in the race

- He comes to a stop.                                                                                                  

8. Dusk Road

- Inspired by other riders, seeing his dream go he forces himself to carry on.

 9. Evening Road

- Still in the race, He is hit by a car

 10. Living Room

- Character sitting alone in a chair, tries to stand up to get on bike but fear pulls him back, continues to sit in chair restrained by injuries and fear.

 11. Living Room

- Friend arrives, trying to encourage main character to ride again

- Friend Leaves, with the destroyed bike

 12. Living Room

- Friend returns with bike and opens curtains letting light in sees friend ride off

- Light disperses the fear and Character starts Inspecting the bike

- Rediscovers love for the bike, fear gets smaller.

 13. Road

- Character outracing his fear, crosses the finishing line winning the race

9 Circles of Hell with Environments/Character Ideas

Limbo

        - Waiting room, enter by using a limbo pole and going through a tiny door.

        - Statue

        - Dentist/doctors room

        - Simple designs, bland walls and simple carpet. NO INTRICATE DESIGNS

        - Elevator

        - Spinning minus statute, seen as the decider 

        - Simple doors with symbols eg. Cow ect……

        - Limbo magazines on a small table, references to the room

        - Lift to drop the character into limbo, comedic element having elevator music

Lust

- Phallic Tower
- Props could be a throne to show the hierarchy and Chains/Hooks
- Using the idea of lust to connect it to money, set in a Casino - characters chained to a roulette wheel as it constantly spinning 
- Symbol is a cow and colour blue
- Souls burned by fire and brimstone (demons throwing rocks)
- Main Characters: Cleopatra, any famous adulter
- Demons: Lust, Asmodeus and the temptresses 
- Make a connection with Adam and Eve, the apples could replace the fire and brimstones

Gluttony

-  Organs and human waste

-  Mouths coming out of the wall
- Addicts
- Floor of people
- Cerberus hell hound (could be invisible)
- Could have the door with a dog head either side, the character opens the door and the dog attacks. - See three heads without modelling them

Greed

- Guard (hades) plutus, don’t annoy him!!

- Lose their identity, all the characters look the same

- Violence against themselves, suicide. Woods, souls are turned to trees. Harpies to rip at the leaves. - Look at their bodies forever on Judgment Day.
- Violence against god, nature and art. Desert, fire falling like snow
- Trees could have faces carved into the wood rather than hanging bodies

Fraud

The ten ditches of the Malebolge are:-

- Panderers and Seducers: "The panderers and seducers will spend eternity beaten, prodded and whipped by Lucifer's lieutenants."

-  Flatters: "My brethren in the Malebolge, we flounder in sewage and waste."

- Simony: "Sellers of favors, crimes against the church. They are trapped in baptismal baths, their feet eternally in flames."

- Diviners: "The fortune tellers should have known that they cannot see with the eyes of God. They walk with their heads backwards, their eyes awash in tears."

- Grafters: "Great, winged demons tend to the grafters, who stole and embezzled in life. They are thrown into deep, vile pits."

- Hypocrites: "The cloaks of the hypocrites appear regal and noble, and yet worn as punishment, each lined with crippling lead."

- Thieves: "Thieves are held and bitten by serpents. The venom burns them to ash only so they may reform and suffer again."

- Evil Counselors: "Evil advisers who used their forked-tongues for counsel serving their own ends. They stand ablaze."

- Sowers of Discord: "They hold their heads and innards, the chaos they caused in life, cast upon them in death."

- Falsifiers: "All thoughts of pain and suffering fall upon the falsifiers. Hear their wailing and be warned."

Treachery

-  First Round, Caina. Traitors to kindred incased in ice up to their chin.

- Second Round, Antenora. Traitors to their cities, partial entities. Same Punishment as above.

-  Third Round, Ptolomaea. Traitors to the guests, lay in the ice only the face is showing.

- Fourth Round, Traitors to their lords and benfactors. Completely incased in ice and deformed.

-   Centre of hell lives Satan, three faces one black, red and pale yellow. Brutus and Cassius are feet first in the left and right mouths of satan, Judas has his head chewed by satan and forever having his back scratched by Satans claws.
- Ice bridge and frozen river. Colours could be blue or green

2nd Circle Props and Characters

Researching the 2nd circle of hell I have looked at a variety of scenes depicting different artist interpretations, the objects and Props included in hell were:-

The main colour of lust is red, its known to be seductive and sexual. Researching on the lust level of hell and the seven deadly sins it is represented using the colour blue, I like the idea of using contrasting colours which I will research into further when making the concepts designs.

- The Carnal Tower is the phallic tower of Lust and the throne of Cleopatra.

- The Tempest of Lustful Shades:- This is an idea from Dante's Inferno, to get away from taking to much information from one source, the winds could be in a hourglass throwing someone around. While the other characters are shackled and hung from the ceiling.

- Chains and hooks

- Tall sharp rocks

- Throne

Characters 

- Temptress - The Temptress has a human form, with grey skin and partly dressed. They have metal claws and a retractable, scorpion tendril opening at the navel to the vagina. They stand in a crouched position.

- Asmodeus - Asmodeus is depicted as the strongest, most cunning, and most beautiful of all devils. He is typically described as appearing as a human, 13 feet tall, he has lustrous dark skin and black hair, handsome and dangerous, his red eyes shine with infernal power, a pair of small sharp horns crowns his forehead. He dresses in regal finery of red and black robes studded with black diamonds and fiery rubies, which are of unimaginable expense. Beneath his clothing, Asmodeus's body is covered in bloody wounds which he sustained when he fell from heaven. His wounds ooze blood daily, and the drops of his blood which touch the ground grow into powerful devils.

Asmodeus is never seen without his Ruby Rod of Asmodeus, seemingly made of a single carved ruby that shines with the power of Hell, that serves as a badge of office as well as having several powerful offensive and defensive powers. The Rod allows Asmodeus to attack with elemental forces, force his enemies to cower in fear, or cover himself with a field which heals and protects him.

Lust as portrayed in Fullmetal Alchemist - She is not thought to be Lust but rather a representation of lust created as a object of lust for humans. She has extendable long sharp nails used to cut through anything.

Demons and Lust

The demon paired with the deadly sin of lust was Asmodeus one of the kings of demons. Asmodeus is responsible for twisting people's sexual desires. It is said that people who fall to Asmodeus' ways will be sentenced to an eternity in the second level of hell.

He has seventy-two legions of demons under his command. He is one of the Kings of Hell under Lucifer the emperor. He incites gambling, and is the overseer of all the gambling houses in the court of Hell. 

He "is strong, powerful and appears with three heads; the first is like a bull, the second like a man, and the third like a ram; the tail of a serpent, and from his mouth issue flames of fire." Also, he sits upon an infernal dragon, holds a lance with a banner and governs seventy two legions of inferior spirits.

The idea of this demon also corrupting people with desires other than the desire of sex and pleasure, gambling is also mentioned giving me the idea of creating a giant casino table where people are spun on the roulette tables and made of casino machines.

Visual Representations of Lust

Dante's Inferno

It seems that Dante's Infernos Second Circle of Hell focus on the sexual lust desire, rather than the desire for goods and temptation. This level uses wind to continuously and very violently blow those who have committed adultery back and forth, the strong winds are to symbolise the restlessness of their desires. Many historical and mythological people inhabit this circle including Cleopatra, Tristan, Helen of Troy and many others.

Religion 

In Catholicism sexual desire is seen as a good thing and is considered part of God's plan for humanity. However, when sexual desire is separated from God's love it becomes disordered and self-seeking, which is then seen as Lust. Whereas Christians believe that lustful people will be punished in hell by being smothered in fire and brimstone, as they have been smothered by their physical pleasures and must now endure being smothered by physical torment.

The Erotic World

Symbols associated and linked with Lust are cows and the colour blue, this is interesting as I could base the colour scheme of this level to create a relevant level. Lust is a intense desire and could be exemplified by the intense desire of money, food, fame and sex.

I have been asked to research Lust from the 9 Circles of Hell, I will begin making up moodboards and brainstorms that will help the planning and design process.
